All couples getting married in Colorado need to be sure that they obtain a marriage license. Here is some information that you’ll need to know to make the marriage legal.

Application for Marriage License
Applicants for a Colorado marriage license need not be Colorado residents. Marriage Licenses are valid for 30 days. Both parties must appear in person in the office of the Clerk and Recorder to complete and sign marriage application forms. The legal age to wed in Colorado without parental consent is 18 years of age.

What to Bring
The cost for a marriage license in the State of Colorado is $30. Not all clerk offices accept credit cards for this purchase, so bring cash with you.

Each applicant must bring proof of identity and birth date. Any of the following will be accepted:

  • Driver’s License
  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport
  • Military Identification

If either party has been divorced, we require the date of the divorce, the type of court and the city and state where the divorce took place.

    Time Saving Tip
I usually recommend that my clients stay away from some of the busier counties for obtaining their marriage license to avoid lines. Typically the Douglas County Clerk office is less busy and get you processed in a timely manner.
