We love this wedding planning advice from one of our favorite Colorado calligraphers, PrettyWriing.com.
I have a few words to say about calligraphy – and what to do or not do if you are looking for other options…
If, in planning for your event, you have even given calligraphy a thought, your event must be special! It doesn’t matter if it is your wedding – oh, wait, that DOES matter! – a religious ceremony, important anniversary, holiday party, or whatever special event you are planning, you want your guests to know several things including just how special your event will be and just how special they are to be invited.
Sometimes we find ourselves faced with budget constraints and there just isn’t enough money for all of the great details we would like to include – like calligraphy. Sometimes there may be enough money, but we find it difficult to justify ‘frivolous’ expenses. Either way, you have decided to forego the expense and by a new outfit for the event instead!
OK – so what are your options?
With either of these options, please remember to allow plenty of time for the addressing – this takes longer than you think!
Now for the ‘what not to do’
NEVER use labels to address your envelopes!
I have done an informal, unscientific survey of event professionals, family members, friends, acquaintances, and people on the street and the unanimous opinion is that labels are indicative of junk mail!
In conclusion, my personal opinion is that I prefer to receive mail that has been hand address in less than perfect handwriting than addressed with a label – I know that the sender cares enough to personalize the envelope.
OK – now I will put away my soapbox.
The wedding is over and you're officially a wife!
With a new title must come a new shirt for the honeymoon...or even just a relaxing day at home.
