Colorado Wedding planner Series: The Top European Honeymoon Destinations For Your Travel Personality5/13/2020
While we might not be travelling a lot right now, the extra time at home is giving us more time to day dream of our next big trip. Many of our clients are looking for fun and unique honeymoon destination. We loved speaking with Suzanne Beverly Dayton a Europe Specialist and Travel Agent about some of the great options available. Read on as she shares her favorite destinations and some advice for planning. We cannot wait to hear what destination fits your personality! My best friends and I talk about it all the time. It’s been 8 years this year since most of us got married. As we reminisced about our honeymoons and talked about what we would like to do for our upcoming ten year anniversary celebrations, one thing was crystal clear. We all had very different ideas of what a great trip would look like. When it comes to travel everyone has a different personality. It is almost like everyone has a zodiac sign specific for traveling. Your traveler zodiac sign usually points you in one of three directions: the go, go explorer, the mixer of exploration and relaxation, or the full on relaxer. The ExplorerIf you are someone who can not sit still while on vacation, then you will want your honeymoon to be the same. My recommendation for travelers that prefer to be on the move is to either (1) immerse yourself in one city fully (5-7 days) or (2) combine up to 3 amazing European cities (at least 2 weeks). London and Paris Enjoy two of the most trendy, charismatic cities in one trip. Recommended for 7 days, spend 3 nights exploring London's historic streets and monarchy. Discover the Mayfair district and venture over to Soho for a bite to eat in a posh restaurant. Then take the train to Paris for 3 more nights , enjoy the many designer boutiques, cafes, and cinemas with a stroll down the Champs-Elysees. Take in the amazing view of Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower and taste a warm baguette from a local boulangerie. Rome & Venice Italy is one of Europe’s most visited countries. Enjoy your own Italian adventure for a recommended 7 day trip to Rome and Venice. Begin in Rome for 3 nights - a thriving city built on the foundation of a medieval empire. Climb to the top of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica, explore the history of the Coliseum, and take an authentic pizza making class. Take the train to Venice for another 3 nights, lose yourself in the labyrinth of canals as you make your way to lively Piazza San Marco. By the end of your trip, you will feel all the love Italy has to offer. Mixin’ It UpPersonally, I love to mix in the adventure with some relaxation time. If you also prefer to return with new experiences in your scrapbook, but also some days spent soaking in the sun, then a trip that mixes in both is what I recommend. For me, 7 days on the beach can be a bit much. But I do need at least 3. Barcelona Spend 5 or 6 nights enjoying the perfect mix of city and beach life. The land of bullfighters and flamenco dancers, fiestas and siestas and crispy churros. Barcelona is a vibrant city you can experience as you stroll on La Rambla, visit the Sagrada Familia, and relax on the white sandy beaches. Portugal In my opinion, one of the best places to travel is Portugal. Spend at least 3 nights in the city of Lisbon, where you can wander the cobblestoned streets, indulge in a crispy pastry from a local confeitaria (these are amazing), or take a ride on one of the city's old-fashioned yellow trams. Then drive just 30 minutes to an hour south of Lisbon for a couple great beach options for at least 3 more nights. Your choices include Portinho da Arrábida or Praia do Carvalhal. Both are the home to amazing beaches and turquoise water. Just Trying to Relax If your sign points you to 7-10 days on an amazing beach, with top service, full of relaxation, then there are plenty of places in Europe perfect for you (and your budget). Greece The stunning beaches, beautiful islands, great food and centuries of history and culture makes for an amazing honeymoon spot. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Seas, Greece gently cascades into thousands of islands with gentle breezes, clear waters and sandy beaches. There are a couple different ways to enjoy the relaxation Greece offers. My top recommendation is to enjoy an all-inclusive option at one of Greece’s amazing resorts. The other option is to island hop, booking a trip that includes transfer and stays at the different Greek isles. Croatia The hottest new destination in Europe, and so affordable. For a relaxing honeymoon, station yourself on the coast right outside Dubrovnik. Enjoy sun soaked beaches and rooms that open up to the ocean. You can’t go wrong with any spot along the breathtaking Adriatic Coast. In order to get the most out of your honeymoon, it is important that you understand what type of traveler you are AND your soon to be spouse. If the same, great! If not, try to meet in the middle and mix it up. No matter which travel personality you have, Europe has a destination waiting for you. Download your Guide to Europe for Honeymooners and Romance.
